Sligo councillor says Taoiseach’s comments on All Island Rail Review is good news for local roads projects

A Sligo councillor says the reported rift between the Government Parties over the all Island Rail review could be good news for the future of the N17 upgrade between Knock and Collooney.

The future of the project was cast in major doubt following comments by the Transport Minister, Eamon Ryan in Sligo this year.

It emerged this week that Green party members have been angered by remarks made by the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar in relation to the recently published all-island rail review plan.

The plan recommends a series of new train routes and increased capacity, however, The Fine Gael leader says the review makes the case for more investment in roads.

Sligo independent councillor Michael Clarke says recent lobbying by local Councillors and the CEO of Sligo County Council to the Taoiseach on the N17 is having the desired effect.

Cllr Clarke says the recent comments is good news for a number of road projects in this region.
