Retained Fire Fighters in the North West return to strike action



Retained fire fighters across the North West are engaging in strike action again this morning.

 

They are among the two thousand retained firefighters across the country are returning to the picket lines today.

 

They’re resuming strike action after voting to reject a Labour Court recommendation on pay and working hours, but will cover life-threatening emergencies.

 

SIPTU has condemned local authorities for refusing to agree an emergency cover plan ahead of a strike by 2 thousand retained firefighters today.

 

The union claims local councils are pitting the public against the men and women of the retained services.

 

SIPTU has accused them of playing Russian roulette and making the firefighters responsible for running the service.
