Two competitors have died while competing in today’s Sligo Rally.
They were fatally injured while competing in the sixth stage.
Motorsport Ireland has extended its sympathies to the families and friends of the two competitors and they have confirmed they have begun a full investigation with the relevant authorities into today’s events.
Earlier Gardaí confirmed that they were investigating all circumstances following a serious road traffic collision that occurred this afternoon, at the Sligo Stages Rally.
As a result of this collision, the organisers halted the event.
Gardai requested that footage of this collision would not be shared across social media or messaging applications.
Anyone with video footage was asked to make it available to Gardaí.
