A Donegal Sinn Fein TD says his party have yet to decide whether they will support a move by the Donegal branch of the Irish Hotels Federation to have the hospitality VAT kept at 9%
The rate is due to increase to 13.5% and Paul Diver the chairperson of the Donegal branch of the Irish Hotels Federation had written to all LOCAL TD’s to support their actions.
Speaking to Ocean FM news Donegal Sinn Fein TD Pádraig Mac Lochlainn says while he has sympathy for Donegal and North West Hoteliers that depend on the tourism and hospitality sector, however he feels the actions of hotels by engaging in price gauging elsewhere has made it difficult to support the move nationally.
Deputy Mac Lochlainn says there have been many examples of princes being increased in Dublin to coincide with major concerts/
The Donegal TD says it’s not possible to introduce lower hospitality or consumer tax rates on a regional basis.
