Strandhill Golf Club hosts Irish Senior Close Championships



Strandhill Golf Club in Sligo plays host to the Irish Senior Men’s and Women’s Close Championships this week.

In total, 136 golfers will contest the two events over the next four days.

The men’s field includes recent European Seniors winner Eddie McCormack – while Deirdre Smith (Co Louth) is in Strandhill this week to try and defend her title.

The championships run from Tuesday, July 4th to Friday, July 7th.

There will be a 36-hole qualifier on the first two days before the top-16 qualifiers enter the matchplay stages.

The next best 16 players in the Women’s championship will enter the Plate matchplay while the next best over-60 players in the Men’s will play in the Veteran’s Trophy.

The semi-finals and finals of the men’s and women’s championships will take place on Friday.
