Sligo’s All-Ireland hopes dashed by Limerick

Sligo women’s gaelic footballers suffered a second consecutive defeat in Group A of the TG4 All-Ireland junior football championship when they lost to Limerick by 2-7 to 1-7 in an entertaining game in Newcastlewest.

The result, coupled with Down’s hammering of Kilkenny, means Sligo cannot now qualify for the All-Ireland semi-finals.

In keeping with LGFA championship games across the country this weekend, both the Sligo and Limerick players returned to the dressing-rooms after the National Anthem was played – in protest at the lack of progress on various player welfare issues in recent weeks.

TG4 All-Ireland JFC Group A
Limerick 2-7 Sligo 1-7
Down 13-24 Kilkenny 0-4

Group B
Fermanagh 3-12 London 2-10
Carlow 6-11 Derry 2-6
