Regional Health Forum West hears concerns over how the region would respond to major emergencies

A Leitrim Councillor has reiterated his calls for adequate planning to be put in place so that a proper medical response will be ready to cater for any emergencies that may arise festival and concerts in the North West

Councillor Felim Gurn, aired his concerns at a meeting of the  Regional Health Forum West.

The Independent Councillor believes there is an ongoing issue with recruiting staff within the HSE and as a result there would not be an adequate response to a major incident should it arise at local festivals or music events in the region.

The Manorhamilton based elected representative says the Irish health sector has forced a number of qualified medical professionals either retire or move abroad partly due to pay and conditions.

Councillor Gurn says it is vital the HSE have a plan in place to deal with the inevitable increase in demand for medical services.
