New Cathaoirleach to be confirmed for Sligo Council today



A number of Cathaoirligh and Leas-Chathaoirleach are set to be elected across Sligo and Leitrim today.

 

They will hold their respective roles for upcoming year ahead.

 

First up this morning will be the full meeting of Sligo County Council at 10am where a Cathaoirleach and Leas-Chathaoirleach will be chosen.

It’s getting underway at 10am and will see current Cathaoirleach Cllr Michael Clarke hand over the chain to his successor.

 

It’s widely anticipated that Fine Gael Cllr Gerard Mullaney will assume the role and Fine Gael Cllr Tom Fox will be Vice-Chair.

Then, at 11.30am, attentions will turn to the Sligo – Drumcliff area where it’s understood that Fine Gael Cllr Thomas Walsh will be elected Cathaoirleach of that Municipal District.

 

Next up, the focus will be on the Ballymote – Tubbercurry MD – that meeting is getting underway at 12 noon and it’s expected that Independent Cllr Joe Queenan will take over the chain there.

 

Finally at 2pm it’s over to Manorhamilton where it’s anticipated that Independent Cllr Felim Gurn will assume the role of Cathaoirleach for the MD.

This will be the final year for the current complement of Councillors with the local elections set to take place in the summer of 2024.
