1939 Sligo Shoe Factory Fire remembered



 

As the retained fire fighters continued to engage in industrial action this week, North West Today looked back on the great Sligo Shoe Factory fire of 1939.

 

The nearest fire service to Sligo then was based in Athlone.

 

The fire at the factory which took place on St Patrick’s Day had devastating impact on the local economy and Conor McCarthy from Sligo Chamber of commerce reflected on the event in the company of John Lynch:
