Sligo Councillor says erection of warning signs at beaches in foreign languages may save lives

A Sligo councillor has contacted the water safety officer and director of services with the local Authority in relation to the lack of warning signs on beaches after a potential tragedy was averted in Strandhill.

It’s emerged that recently a local swimmer acted quickly to remove a group of people from a dangerous location due to currents in Strandhill.

The group believed to be Ukrainian claimed that they were unable to read the warning signs.

Local Councillor Sinead Maguire says given the large numbers of Ukrainian refugees in the country now warning signs should be translated into Ukrainian to ensure that as many people as possible are aware of the possible dangers.
