Failure to upgrade N17 is ‘monumental failure to economic development of Sligo’

The CEO of the Sligo Chamber of Commerce has described the decision to pause funding for the upgrade of the N17 between Ireland West Airport and Collooney as monumental failure to the economic development of Sligo.

Aidan Doyle made the comments in reaction to the decision by the government to prioritise bypasses of major towns and to invest in Public Transport at the expense of the N17 upgrade in the counties of Sligo and Mayo.

Speaking to Ocean FM news the CEO of the local chamber of commerce says if the project if funding is suspended for the project it will signal another missed opportunity to address the regional imbalance that currently exists between the north west and other parts of the country.
