Ballymote sculler Brian Colsh will begin Ireland’s challenge at the 2023 European Rowing Championships in Bled, Slovenia, which begin on Thursday morning (till Sunday 28th).
Colsh goes in the first heat of the men’s heavyweight single sculls at 10:55am Irish time.
Ireland has sent 10 crews to Slovenia for this week’s championship.
Colsh is a former European junior silver medallist – and also competed at his first senior World Rowing Championships in the Czech Republic last September, where he had a top 15 finish.
Olympic champions Paul O’Donovan and Fintan McCarthy will not defend their European title.
O’Donovan, who has been doing medical exams, was not available – so Hugh Moore of Queen’s University will now team up with McCarthy.
Sanita Puspure and Zoe Hyde travel to Bled on the back of taking bronze at the World Championships.
The Ireland women’s four features three of the crew which took Olympic bronze in Tokyo.
