Work set to begin on new school for Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí at end of month

It’s been confirmed that work is set to begin on a new school building for Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí in Donegal Town at the end of the month.

Founded in 1999, the school has been in second hand prefabs for the past 24 years.

The project had been cast into doubt earlier this year after the Department of Public Expenditure paused a total of 58 school building projects across the country.

In March, parents, teachers and other members of the school community staged a protest outside the Gaelscoil over the delay in the provision of the new school.

In more recent weeks, the Government had indicated that an agreement has been secured to guarantee and support the rollout and continuation of the Department’s ambitious school building programme.

It’s been confirmed today that the contractor has now been appointed and builders will be on site in the coming weeks.
