Local Authorities in North West accused of falling to provide for older renters

A Spokesperson for the charity ALONE has sharply criticised the local Authorities in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal for failing to provide adequate accommodation for an ageing population that will continue to live in rented accommodation.

The comments come as a quarter of older renters say they expect to remain in the private rental sector for life.

Joint research by Threshold and ALONE found 42 per cent of respondents experience high stress levels renting in the private sector.

Lack of security of tenure and affordability were the main concerns for private renters.

Frank Dillon is the head of communications with Alone says they have provided assistance to over 3000 across the counties of Sligo Leitrim and Donegal last year.
