MCR clinch Southern Hotel Super League title

MCR clinched Sligo-Leitrim’s Southern Hotel Super League title for the first time since 1998 on Saturday night with a 1-1 draw against Calry Bohs at Hazelwooed.

MCR, who had led the Super League since the start of season need just a draw from their last two league games to be sure of the title.

As it turned out, Carbury’s 2-0 loss to Strand Celtic on Saturday meant MCR would have been champions even if they’d lost this penultimate fixture.

Keelan Gethins gave Calry Bohs a first-half lead – but Bradley Fowley level matters for the champions elect on 64 minutes.

In a fixture which was at times tempestuous, three players saw red cards in separate incidents (two for Calry and one for MCR) – but the visitors held on to secure the precious league point which gives them the 2022/23 title.

Saturday’s Southern Hotel Super League results
Calry Bohs 1 MCR 1
Strand Celtic 2 Carbury FC 0
St John’s 3 Coolaney Utd 3
