Justice Minister says Garda divisional headquarters decision is one for Commissioner



The Minister for Justice has told the Dáil that any decision to establish Sligo Garda Station as a divisional headquarters for An Garda Síochána is one for the Garda Commissioner.

Sligo-Leitrim TD Frank Feighan raised the issue with Minister Harris adding that Sligo would be a more suitable location for the Headquarters which are currently located in Letterkenny.

Deputy Feighan also claimed that the Armed Response Unit HQ should be based in County Sligo

Minister Harris has given a commitment that he will visit Sligo Garda station in the near future and says the Sligo-Leitrim Garda Division has been allocated a greater community policing and civilian staff allocations in recent times:

Deputy Feighan expressed his disappointment with the response from his party colleague and Minister.

He says that funding for a new Garda Station in Sligo would not be an insurmountable obstacle:
