Leitrim Councillor calls for water pipes upgrade

It was claimed at this month’s meeting of Leitrim County Council that the continued use of clay pipes by Irish Water is causing serious problems with water quality and supply in the North West.

Manorhamilton Councillor Felim Gurn raised the issue adding that these pipes are over 100 years old and that Irish Water needs to upgrade them as soon as possible.

While accepting that there are legacy issues around the infrastructure handed over to Irish Water the Independent Councillor says thousands of litres of water is being wasted each year as a result of substandard infrastructure.
