Sligo Councillor fears for the future of Inishmurray Island



An Bord Pleanála is facing increasing pressure to remove red tape on getting a landing facility established at Inishmurray Island.

 

At the moment the island has been deemed an area of special conversation and plans for such a facility are effectively blocked.

 

Many relatives of people on the mainland are buried there and the island itself is steeped in heritage with ongoing calls for safe access to and from it.

 

Cllr Donal Gilroy doesn’t see a situation where there would be an influx of people visiting the island and he also fears that the heritage will be lost unless something is done:
