Support for the Social Democrats has seen a surge in the latest opinion poll.
Following the appointment of Holly Cairns as leader, the Social Democrats have reached their highest ever rating- up 5 to 9 per cent in the latest Sunday Independent/ Ireland Thinks March Poll.
Sinn Féin remains the most popular party in the country despite dropping two points in this latest poll to 29 per cent.
Support for Fine Gael has also fallen by 1 to 21 per cent, while Fianna Fáil has gained one to 19.
The poll shows the Independents are unchanged on 10, and there’s no change either for the Greens on 4.
Aontú and Labour are both down 1 to 3 per cent, while Solidarity/ People Before Profit has dropped one to 2.
The poll was carried out on March 3rd with a sample size of 1,162 people.
