A Manorhamilton MD Councillor has called on the local authorities in Sligo and Leitrim to give serious consideration to a traffic management plan which will be redirecting traffic from the N16 onto regional roads during upgrade works that are currently ongoing.
Fine Gael Councillor Frank Dolan says that when upgrade works were taking place last summer diverted traffic caused disruption in various locations on the R 278.
He says traffic was diverted onto roads that were not suitable for the volume or size of some of the vehicles that were travelling on them.
Cllr Dolan says with work commencing this week on the Sligo part of the N 16 it’s important that lessons are learned from last year so as to prevent any serious accidents taking place.
