Katie Walsh steps away from Sligo county team

Sligo LGFA has confirmed that one of the county’s most experienced footballers, Katie Walsh, has stepped away from the county panel for the remainder of 2023.

Walsh was part of the Sligo panel for the opening two rounds of the Lidl national league but, according to a statement issued by Sligo LGFA on Monday, has informed team manager Anthony Brennan that she can no longer give the commitment to the county team at present.

Sligo have lost all four matches in Division 3 of the Lidl national football league to date and are currently bottom of the table.

They suffered narrow one-point defeats against Wexford and Louth in recent weeks.

Anthony Brennan’s squad is a youthful one – with a number of senior established names absent from the county set up this year.

Statement from Sligo LGFA:

Katie Walsh (Tourlestrane) has informed Anthony Brennan and his Management Team that she cannot give Sligo lgfa county team the commitment that is required at present .

Sligo LGFA, Senior Manager & Management Team, wish to thank Katie for her dedication to her county team and fellow players. We acknowledge the time and effort given to representing her County and wish her well in the future.

Go n-éirí leat, Katie.
