Sligo maintain promotion push with Waterford win

Sligo collected their second win of their Allianz Football League Division 4 campaign on Sunday with a 0-21 to 0-13 win over struggling Waterford at Markievicz Park.

Castleconnor’s Sean Carrabine top scored for the winners with eight points but despite the high scoring return, the Sligo attack was at times guilty of squandering good scoring opportunities.

Waterford, while clearly second best, never killed off in this contest.

Nonetheless, the win moves Sligo onto four points and into the top three in Division four after three rounds of matches.

The win may have come at a cost with team vice-captain Darragh Cummins taken off injured with a leg injury.

Sligo manager Tony McEntee gave this postmatch assessment after the game to reporter Gavin Cawley.

Sligo travel to Ruislip next Sunday (Feb 26th) to play London (1pm) – a game which will be live on Ocean FM Sport.
