Sligo-Leitrim TD labels court system as ‘under stress’



A Sligo-Leitrim TD has labelled the current Irish court system as ‘under stress’.

Speaking in the Dáil, Deputy Martin Kenny is calling for more resources to be provided to the judicial system and the lack of judges to be addressed.

Sinn Féin Deputy Kenny says says there a number of organisations which assist victims of domestic and gender- based violence, inter-partner violence, harassment, coercive control to try and move forward from such assaults and violence.

However, when the victims enter the court system there isn’t the same resources.

 

In response, Minister for Justice Simon Harris accepted the Sligo-Leitrim TD’s concerns and called a ‘priority’ for his department:
