ATU Sligo reach intervarsities league final

ATU Sligo senior women’s soccer team have booked their place in the final of the women’s intervarsities first division league following Wednesday afternoon’s 4-0 win over University College Cork (UCC).

Two goals from Ciara Forkan, Grange’s Sarah Kiernan, Moville’s Derry City star Erin Coyle gave ATU victory in the semi-final, played at Moylish in Limerick.

What makes ATU’s win all the more impressive is that they were without Sligo Rovers striker Emma Doherty, who’s currently on Republic of Ireland under-19 international duty.

The final will be on March 8th against NUI Galway in Athlone.

ATU Sligo head coach Jay McCartney spoke to Ocean FM Sport’s Austin O’Callaghan after Wednesday’s semi-final win.

Wednesday’s semi-final win followed a similar success for the ATU Sligo men’s ‘B’ team on Tuesday, as they beat Technological University Dublin 3-2 in their Challenge Cup semi-final to reach the final for the first time in their history.

ATU Donegal  have qualified for the Men’s Premier Division final following a 3-2 win over MTU Cork.
