“Dirty fuels” contributing to air pollution in Donegal

The EPA has found the use of ‘dirty fuels’ such as coal during the energy crisis, is likely to have contributed to the high levels of air pollution experienced in some Irish towns including Letterkenny in Donegal.

Levels of particulate matter exceeded the recommended daily limit on 21 days in Ennis, and 14 days in Tralee

While concerning levels of dust and soot in the atmosphere were also recorded on several occasions in Letterkenny, Ringsend, Edenderry in Offaly, Longford town, and Macroom.

Researcher in Climate Policy Sadhbh O’Neill says the Environmental Protection Agency findings are concerning.
