Independent TD calls for new election commission to listen to people’s concerns

A Donegal TD says the new commission that has been established to manage elections must listen to the concerns of lack of political representation that many people in Donegal claim to have.

The new commission is independent of Government Ministers, and will report directly to the Oireachtas.

Part of its role will be explaining referendums to the public and redrawing the Dáil, local and European election constituencies.

Donegal independent TD Thomas Pringle says that voters in Donegal would prefer if the county was not split.

He says it’s likely that the County could have either a five-seat constituency, or two three-seat constituencies for the next general election.
