GRA President claims increase in Garda overtime can be attributed to shortage in staff numbers

The Donegal based President of the GRA has attributed a large increase in overtime costs clocked up by Gardai id down to a severe shortage in numbers.

It’s emerged that eight gardai were paid over 50,000 euro each in overtime last year.

Almost 130 million euro was spent on Garda overtime in 2022, according to freedom of information figures.

That’s 16 million more than the previous year, and 31 million more than in 2020.
