The Garda Representative Association is calling on the government to set up a Special Taskforce to discuss what it described as the many serious issues and concerns affecting its members.
President of the GRA, Donegal based Garda, Brendan O Connor is warning that Gardai are facing an unprecedented challenge with rising assaults on members, as well as major issues around recruiting and retaining the services of existing members.
The GRA has formally written to the Taoiseach, and Minister for Justice and Tánaiste, seeking an urgent meeting to discuss the creation and formation of a Special Taskforce.
Brendan O’Connor says members of the force are coming under attack and are being assaulted far too often.
