GRA President expresses concern over burning of patrol car in Donegal

The Donegal based president of the Garda Representative Association says the events over the weekend where an on duty garda was seriously attacked in Dublin and a Garda patrol car was burned out in Castlefinn shows there is a lack of respect for the force in certain sectors of the community.

Garda Brendan O’ Connor says the incidents provide further reminders of the dangers that Gardai face on a daily basis.

A man in his 30s appeared court yesterday following a serious assault on a garda in Ballymun in Dublin.

The officer was bitten during the course of an arrest after he responded to a dangerous driving incident.

Separately A man in his 30s appeared before a sitting of Letterkenny District Court after a Garda patrol car was set alight in Castlefin.

The man, aged in his 30s and from the Castle fin area, was arrested on Saturday afternoon.
