Leitrim Councillor remains in favour of local property tax



A Leitrim councillor has opposed any moves to abolish the local property tax.

Cllr Justin Warnock has made the calls after it emerged that eight in ten people want the Local Property Tax abolished.

A recent survey from Tax Back DOT COM found the public believe it’s unfair because it’s not measured by income level with more than a third saying they don’t believe the money is being spent well in a way that benefits communities.

The Kinlough based councillor says there are very little revenue gathering avenues available to the local authority in Leitrim.

The Fianna Fáil councillor says while some politicians will take the populist stance and call for it to be abandoned, it’s important to remember the money taken in on the tax is being used as the Council’s stake to drawn down additional funding:
