Last person to see Mary Boyle alive has died

The last person to see Mary Boyle alive – her uncle, Gerry Gallagher, has died

The six year old went missing on March 18, 1977 near Cashelard, Ballyshannon.

Her disappearance is the longest missing child case in the Republic of Ireland.

Mary had been visiting her grandparents’ home in Cashelard with her family when she vanished.

On that day, Mary followed her Uncle Gerry across bogland – he had been working on a roof and was returning a ladder to a neighbouring farmer however it is said that Gerry told Mary to turn back.

This was the last time Mary was seen alive.

Despite a major search in nearby lands and further afield, no trace of Mary has ever been found.

It is believed that Gerry Gallagher died on Wednesday following an illness.
