Paddy McBrearty to captain Donegal senior footballers

Kilcar’s Paddy McBrearty will captain the Donegal senior football team for 2023.

His appointment was confirmed by Donegal GAA on Sunday morning.

McBrearty, who’s the sole remain playing link to Donegal’s All-Ireland winning team from 2012, succeeds Michael Murphy who retired from intercounty football in November.

Murphy had been Donegal’s captain since 2011.

McBrearty captained his club, Kilcar, when they won the Donegal senior football championship in 2017.

The Killybegs duo of Eoghan Ban Gallagher and Hugh McFadden have been named as the team vice-captains.

McBrearty, who’s 29, will lead Donegal out against All-Ireland and league champions Kerry in the opening round of the Allianz Football League Division 1 on Sunday, January 29th, in Ballybofey.

The game will now throw-in at 2pm (instead of 3:45pm).
