Sligo lose to Corinthians in AIL



Sligo resumed their Energia men’s All-Ireland League campaign on Saturday with 26-12 loss to Galway Corinthians in testing weather conditions for rugby on the Tuam road.

Playing into the wind, Ross Hickey gave Sligo a 5-0 advantage with the opening try of the match.

Corinthians responded to lead 12-5 by half-time.

In the third quarter, the home sides took control to open up a 26-5 advantage.Sligos scores: a try each from Ross Hickey & Donnacha Byrne, and a conversion from Euan Brown.

Donnacha Byrne went over for a late Sligo try, which Euan Brown converted but Corinthians had 14 points to spare by the full-time whistle.

Before kick-off, a minute’s silence was observed by both teams in memory of former Sligo RFC President Aidan Buckley, who was laid to rest this week.
