Donegal councillor urges Taoiseach to appoint a local Junior Minister

A Donegal councillor has called on the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar to promote a TD from the north west region to replace Junior Minister Damien English who resigned over a planning application he made in 2008.

Mr. English said he “failed to inform Meath County Council about ownership” of his house in Castlemartin.

He spent four years in the Department of Housing, and more recently served as Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.

Ballyshannon councillor Barry Sweeney says there was regional imbalance when it came to the distribution of places around the cabinet table and Junior Minister portfolios.

Speaking to Ocean FM news Cllr Sweeney says the Taoiseach should use this opportunity to address that political imbalance and appoint a Junior Minister from this region.
