Sligo Grammar School & Summerhill begin Schools Cup campaigns

Rugby’s Connacht senior schools cup begins this week with two Sligo schools among the contenders.

Summerhill College begin their challenge on Wednesday against St Muredach’s College Ballina in their opening Pool 1 game at Hamilton Park in Strandhill (12pm).

Summerhill are in a four-team pool along with Garbally College and last year’s beaten finalists, Coláiste Iognáid (The Jes).

The College reached the Connacht senior league final before Christmas only to lose to town rivals and current Schools Cup holders Sligo Grammar Schooll.

The Grammar begin their group stage on Thursday against Roscommon CBS.

The holders are in a three-team Pool 2, which also includes Marist College Athlone.

The top two teams from each pool will qualify for the Schools Cup semi-finals.
