Seven people charged in Lebanon over killing of Private Sean Rooney



Seven people have been charged in Lebanon over the attack on Irish peacekeepers in South Lebanon which killed Private Seán Rooney.

 

Private Rooney, was killed and three others were injured when their UN Interim Force in Lebanon vehicle was attacked last month.

 

One of the people charged is the person who was handed over by military group Hezbollah. That person is the only one of the seven charged who is still in custody.

 

They are charged with killing Private Sean Rooney, and attempting to kill his three comrades by shooting them with a machine gun.

 

The other six are charged with issuing threats with an illegal weapon, destroying the official UNIFIL vehicle, and intimidating its passengers.
