Overcrowding down to neglect of successive Governments – Gilroy



A Sligo Councillor says the challenges facing Hospitals with overcrowding is one that successive governments have neglected for long enough.

 

Cllr. Donal Gilroy made the calls after it emerged that there are now fewer beds in Irish hospitals now than there were in 1981.

 

A combined total of 838 patients were reported to have been waiting on trolleys in Irish hospitals yesterday.

 

The figures included 46 people at Letterkenny University Hospital and 65 at Sligo University Hospital the second most overcrowded hospital in the country.

 

The Sligo Drumcliff Councillor is also a member of the Regional Health Forum West. He says that while hospital overcrowding is a national problem, moves should be made to replicate the success that Waterford University Hospital has made in addressing the issue.
