Local TD angered by moves to convert HIQA approved buildings at Cloonamahon for office use

A Sligo Leitrim TD has highlighted issues which are impacting the provision of respite services and long-term residential care for people with disabilities in the north west.

Speaking recently in the Dáil Deputy Martin Kenny says it beggars belief that HSE are attempting to convert residential HIQA approved buildings at Cloonamahon for office use as opposed to using them for the provision of care.

The Sinn Fein TD raised the issue with Minister for State with responsibility for disability, Ann Rabbite.

The Sinn Fein Justice Spokesperson says little progress has been made on building a new centre on a site in Carrick-on-Shannon adding that families that need to avail of such services are currently left in limbo.

He claims little progress has been made on establishing alternative respite services despite earlier commitments being provided earlier this year.

The Leitrim based TD added that any moves to convert residential building into offices at Cloonamahon is nothing short of scandalous
