Donegal Councillor pays tribute to Irish soldier killed in Lebanon



It’s emerged the Newtowncunningham solider killed while on duty in Lebanon this week was due to get married next year.

Private Seán Rooney, who was stationed in Dundalk, died from gunshot wounds after an armoured convoy carrying 8 members of the Defence Forces came under attack as it was travelling to Beirut.

His fiancee Holly McConnellogue told the Irish Times that Seán died three years to the day that they first met, but died doing what he loved.

Local Donegal Councillor Paul Canning says its sad the couples plans for the future are now over.
