The Irish solider killed last night in the Lebanon has been named as Private Sean Rooney, a native of Newtowncunnigham in Donegal.
The Defence Forces confirmed his name a short while ago. Private Rooney was serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon.
He joined the Defence Forces in March 2019 and was attached to the 27 Infantry Battalion in Dundalk.
Private Rooney was 23 years of age.
Private Shane Kearney from Cork was also seriously injured in the incident.
