Status orange Weather Alert issued for Leitrim



 

Commuters across the north west are waking up to another morning of icy roads and freezing temperatures.  To make matters worse yet another weather warning has been issued by Met Eireann.

 

Tonight could be the coldest of the year so far.

 

A status orange low temperature/ice warning will take effect in 19 counties including Leitrim from 6 this evening until noon tomorrow.

 

The low temperature/ice warning will also impact counties Roscommon, Galway, Longford,  Cork, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Monaghan, Clare, Kerry, Limerick, and Tipperary.

According to the forecaster, it will be “extremely cold tonight with widespread temperatures below -5C leading to severe frost and ice.”

 

The new weather warning will begin at 6pm and remain in place until noon tomorrow.

 

 

Meanwhile the national status yellow warning for ice and low temperatures remains in place until Friday for the entire country.
