Sligo councillor confirms that upgrade work on the N59 Corhawnagh to Crockacullion will be delayed

There is no immediate signs of upgrade works to take place on the N59 Corhawnagh to Crockacullion Road.

Sligo Drumcliff councillor Donal Gilroy says he has received confirmation that with the estimated cost of the scheme is in excess of €20 million, it falls under the TII category of a Major Project.

Only Major Projects listed on the National Development Plan, which does not include the N59 Scheme are being funded at present.

As a result there is no avenue to progress this project at the moment unless the €20 million ceiling for Minor Projects is lifted to allow the N59 be continued through this process.

Speaking to Ocean FM Cllr Donal Gilroy says delays in upgrading the N59 is a major blow to those looking to construct houses in the local region.
