Sligo Rovers sign Lukas Browning, Keogh & Blaney depart

Sligo Rovers have signed midfielder Lukas Browning for the 2023 season.

He joins from Dalkurd in Sweden until the end of next season, with an option for a further year which could see him remain at the Bit O’ Red until 2024.

Lukas was born in Drogheda and moved to Sweden, aged two.

The 23-year-old has been capped at both Swedish and Irish underage level and spent time in Holland with FC Twente before moving back to Sweden.

Rovers manager John Russell also confirmed at Wednesday night’s Fans Forum in the Clayton Hotel that Sligo native Seamie Keogh and Letterkenny’s Shane Blaney are both leaving the club.

Blaney is joining Scottish Premier League side Motherwell after impressing the Fir Park club during the Europa Conference League tie between the two clubs during the summer.

He moved to the Showgrounds in 2021 after three seasons with Doncaster having come through the ranks with Finn Harps.

But the Letterkenny man was keen to test himself in the UK again and told Rovers at the end of the season he would explore his options.

Keogh’s name is on the PFAI transfer list following discussions between himself and manager Russell regarding his immediate first team football opportunities.

Russell spoke to Ocean FM Sport’s Austin O”Callaghan on Wednesday night about the latest arrival and departures at the Showgrounds.

Rovers have also confirmed that defender Lewis Banks and midfielder Robbie Burton are also moving on in the close season.
