Aodh Ruadh outclassed by Steelstown in Ulster club championship

There was no joy for Aodh Ruadh women’s gaelic footballers in Sunday’s Ulster intermediate club football quarter-final in Ballyshannon as Steelstown Brian Ógs ran out comprehensive 5-8 to 0-8 winners.

Aodh Ruadh battled tirelessly throughout but lacked a cutting edge in front of goal against a more experienced Derry outfit, who scored five goals to seal the win – and will now face Castlerahan of Derry in Ulster intermediate semi-final.

Despite the loss, Paul Gillespie’s developing side will, in time, look back on 2022 as being a very successful season having lifted the county intermediate title in impressive fashion – which means there will be senior LGFA club championship football to look forward to at the refurbished Fr Tierney Park in 2023.

On the other side of the draw, Fermanagh’s Derrygonnelly Harps are through to the Ulster final after beating Moortown of Tyrone by 2-8 to 0-6 in their semi-final played at Canon Maguire Park.
