North West TD accuses the government of not doing enough to prevent refugee crisis

A North West TD is accusing the government of not taking adequate steps to deal with the influx of Ukrainian refugees to this country.

Deputy Martin Kenny is calling for the option of using holiday homes to house Ukrainian refugees to be examined again.

The Leitrim based TD says it comes as no surprise the Citywest welcome hub has reached capacity.

The government warned back in July it was facing a “severe shortage” of accommodation for arriving Ukrainians, which resulted in a number of asylum seekers having to stay in a Dublin Airport terminal overnight.

The Sinn Féin Justice spokesperson says government failed to avail of offers from the general public to help house refugees.
