New counselling plans for primary schools “a step in the right direction”



A Sligo Councillor has described new counselling plans for primary school students as a step in the right direction.

It’s after Education Minister, Norma Foley, announced that new in-school mental health counselling is on the way and comes against the backdrop of a rise in anxiety amongst children.

Other issues affecting children’s wellbeing include bullying, domestic violence and bereavement.

Local Fine Gael councillor, Thomas Walsh, says while the initiative is welcome, an umbrella approach is needed to also include health promotion:
