Media reports claim Agricultural Minister is not in favour of Marc MacSharry returning to Fianna Fáil

It’s being reported this morning that the possible return of Marc MacSharry to the Fianna Fáil party could be blocked by the Minister of Agriculture and Donegal TD Charlie McConalogue.

A meeting of the Fianna Fáil parliamentary this week heard calls for the return of the Sligo Leitrim TD to the party fold.

Deputy MacSharry resigned the party whip last year over a controversy that surrounded Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney and his handling of the nomination of Katherine Zappone to a UN role.

A proposal was brought forward this week by the former minister of agriculture, Barry Cowen to have Marc MacSharry reinstated in the party.

The Taoiseach is understood to have said that there is a “process” in which someone who resigned the party whip can return.

The Irish Independent are reporting that Minister Charlie McConalogue, objected to Deputy MacSharry’s reappointment at Wednesday night’s party meeting.

When contacted by OceanFM this morning Minister McConalogue declined to comment on the matter.
