Love Leitrim group express concern over removal of fracking ban in England

A representative for the ‘Love Leitrim Group’ says todays developments in relation to fracking in the UK is a cause of concern.

UK Ministers have lifted the ban on fracking for shale gas that’s been in place in England since 2019.

The British government argues it’ll help strengthen energy security following Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

The move comes despite a review concluding that forecasting any related earthquakes ‘remains a scientific challenge’ and that further research is needed.

Fracking was banned in the Republic of Ireland after a bill brought forward by the former Sligo Leitrim Deputy Tony McLoughlin, prevented onshore fracking in the Republic of Ireland.

Eddie Mitchell from Love Leitrim says today’s developments in the UK will cause concern on the island of Ireland.
