Sligo’s Brian Colsh finishes 4th in World rowing quarter-final

Ballymote’s Brian Colsh finished fourth for Ireland in his quarter-final  heat of the men’s singles sculls at the World Rowing Championships in the Czech Republic on Wednesday morning.

Drawn in lane one, the 20-year-old, who’s competing in his first ever senior World Championships, was in strong contention for a top-three finish for much of the race before finishing an agonising fourth.

He was lying third with 250 metres to go but was eventually pipped to third place by the Polish boat on the line.

New Zealand’s Jordan Parry won the heat with Denmark second.

Colsh will now compete in the B/C semi-finals later this week.
