Shamrock Gaels to face Tourlestrane in Sligo semi-final

Shamrock Gaels booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2022 Homeland Sligo senior football championship with a decisive 4-13 to 0-14 win over Calry/St Joseph’s in Sunday’s concluding Group 1 game at Markievicz Park.

The win earns Glen McDermott side a last four meeting with holders Tourlestrane who are chasing their seventh Owen B Hunt Cup in a row.

The champions finished top of Group 2 with a narrow 0-8 to 0-7 win over Drumcliffe/Rosses Point, who also qualify for the last four by virtue of a better scoring difference than league winners Coolera/Strandhill.

Last year’s finalists beat Coolaney/Mullinbreena by 22 points (5-16 to 1-6) but that margin was still three points shy of the tally they needed to finish ahead of Drumcliffe/Rosses Point.

St Mary’s signalled their credentials once again against Curry with a 1-25 to 0-11 win to make it four wins out of four in Group 1 – to set up a semi-final clash with Drumcliffe/Rosses Point.

The semi-finals will be played on the weekend of October 1st/2nd.
